Dear Mr. Prime Minister: This week, on August 7, US Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld publicly announced his support for the right of the Jewish State to continue holding lands won in the 1967 Middle East War. This announcement should be considered as a gift from the Holy One of Israel. Rumsfeld's support of Israel's right to hold the lands captured from the Arabs gives you an increased opportunity to follow G-d's Commandments and not further divide His land. The Bible describes how 603,550 men over the age of twenty were miraculously delivered by the G-d of Israel from Egyptian slavery. Yet all but two of them, Joshua and Caleb, died in the wilderness because they lacked the faith to believe that the Holy One would give them the Land which He swore to give their fathers. G-d said of them: “They have acted corruptly toward Me, they are not My children, because of their defect...I will hide My face from them; For they are a perverse and crooked generation, Sons in whom is no faithfulness....as I swore in my wrath, 'they shall not enter My rest’” (Deuteronomy 32:5,20; Hebrews 3:11). Their generation received this judgment because they lacked the faith to take the Land. Our generation has been miraculously given portions of the Land, but lacks the faith to believe that the Holy One will provide the numbers to hold the Land and have instead given it back to our enemies. What will be the judgment of our generation? Will we also be judged to be, “A perverse and crooked generation, sons in whom is no faithfulness,” and doomed to “never enter into His rest”? For thirty-five years the Holy One of Israel has orchestrated events so that the West Bank and Gaza Strip have not become an independent sovereign state. And this generation which has experienced these events will not pass away until these areas have become a sovereign part of Israel. The only question remaining: What circumstances will it take to ignite the faith of those who now govern Israel so they might exhibit the faith of a Joshua or a Caleb and declare sovereignty over the West Bank and Gaza strip? Let all Israel, both near and far away, be careful not to miss the opportunity to be used by G-d to fulfill His promises to our fathers concerning the return of the full remnant of Israel to their own soil. We do not want to seem to have fallen short. Mr. Prime Minister we encourage you to “seize the moment,” and claim the inheritance promised by the Holy One of Israel to our twelve tribes. It is far better to face tomorrow with faith rather than fear. Angus Wootten |
