We are excited to be able to gather once again at the newly updated Rosen Plaza Hotel on International Drive in Orlando, Florida. It is with nostalgia that we remember our initial Conference there in 1999 and the many Conferences we have had in various places in later years. Nonetheless, we want our gathering this year to be different. And, we sincerely hope that you, and your family and friends, will join us. We want old and new friends to come together, and we want to have our lives changed for the better. Our prayer is that our "2012 Gathering" will help us take a giant step toward this end goal. In addition to the Gathering on August 31st - September 2nd, 2012, we will be holding a Leadership meeting on August 30th for Leaders of Congregations and Fellowships.

A Significant Anniversary

This is the MIA's thirteenth anniversary. Young people often have a Bar/Bat Mitzvah in their 13th year - which represents the idea of becoming a responsible adult. We want to build on that idea for our upcoming conference, but from a unique perspective. First Corinthians 13:11 says, "When I was a child, I used to speak like a child, think like a child, reason like a child; when I became a man, I did away with childish things." We are praying that our time together might mark a time when we can collectively put away "childish" things and begin to walk as true "Spirit-empowered Sons of the Messiah." Note that we are not calling it a "Conference" but a "Gathering." We are doing this because we are looking for something different. We want to gather with those who are of like mind, but for a specific reason. We want to address some pressing issues:

The MIA appreciates the eternality of the Torah. And we realize that we should not be legalistic with others when we share it. Our motto is, "Commitment without compromise, mercy without measure." In other words, we want to seek total commitment in our own lives, but we must always seek to be merciful to those who do not yet understand some of the truths that we have been allowed to see. That is the way our Messiah is with us, and that is the way we need to be with others. Thus, we want to come together and make a commitment to put away all of the mean-spirited attitudes that have plagued our movement. It is time for us to leave such childishness behind. It is time for us to be adults who know that it is "the kindness of God that leads us to repentance" (Romans 2:4).

We also realize that Israel has traditionally been a rebellious and "stiff-necked" people. Many Scripture verses attest to this fact (Exodus 32:9; 33:3-5; Deuteronomy 31:27; Jeremiah 17:23). In addition, we tend to be people who would rather listen to the voice of an "earthly king" than try to hear the spiritual voice of the Holy One. When we do that, we repeat the hurtful sin of our forefathers; we reject our God, who wants to speak directly to us (1 Samuel 8:7). He said of scattered Israel, "I will bring you into the wilderness of the people, and there will I plead with you face to face" (Ezekiel 20:35, KJV; for more info, please see the book, The Voice - Hearing the Almighty).

Most Messianic Believers know that YHVH tells us to "circumcise your heart, and stiffen your neck no longer" (Deuteronomy 10:16). And, the ungodly action that makes our necks stiff is clearly defined in Acts 7:51: "You stiff-necked people, with uncircumcised hearts and ears! You are just like your fathers: You always resist the Holy Spirit!"

The problem is that we tend to "resist the Holy Spirit." When we do that, the Father thinks we are being "stiff-necked." We do not want to be stiff-neck and resist the Ruach. But on the other hand we do want to resist error. We must say this because, in the past, some people have badly misrepresented the workings of the Holy Spirit. This too, is childishness that we must put away. We must grow up and realize that the evil one has been at work with counterfeit moves of the "Holy Spirit" that tend to put people off. We therefore, need to learn to be as wise, to even be as shrewd as the serpent who wants to trip us up, but at the same time, we must be as innocent as a dove (Matthew 10:16). In other words, we need to be smart enough to know that the evil one will try to get us to do things that oppose Scripture, and even have us foolishly claim that we are doing things "in the Spirit" - when the truth is that the Holy Spirit (symbolized by the innocent dove), would never, ever, lead anyone to go against Scripture.

We Have a Problem...

We have often heard the saying, "Houston, we have a problem..."
In our case, the saying should be, "Israel, we have a problem..."
The problem is that the evil one wants to fool us, and we have an age-old tendency to be "stiff-necked" when it comes to the Ruach. Thus, we must be wise enough to realize that, the word from on High for the Last Days is this: "Not by might nor by power, but by my Spirit,' says YHVH the Almighty" (Zechariah 4:6).

YHVH made it clear that, "not by might shall a man prevail" (1 Samuel 2:9).
We can't do it in our own strength. If we try to, our actions will appear to be "fleshy" to others, and we can end up being the reason why they turn away. We do not want that. Fleshiness misrepresents the work of the Spirit. We are involved with Israel's latter days restoration and return. In the Torah, our Father prophesied that, "In the latter days you will return to the LORD your God and listen to His voice" (Deuteronomy 4:30).

We live in the latter days - we are seeking to return to the Holy One and to His truths. We therefore need to learn to listen to His voice. Like good Bereans, we need to gather together and examine the matter in detail, and thus seek to solve our problem. We need to study and learn how to get rid of our stiff neck and stop resisting the Ruach. It is time for us to grow up and realize that it is the Ruach HaKodesh who empowers us to keep Torah. It is He who writes it on our hearts (Jeremiah 31:33; Luke 24:49).

We need both the Torah and the Spirit. In our upcoming Gathering, we want to marry the two. For this reason, we will have a "one room boot camp" in which we will seek to build, line upon line, precept upon precept, on a Scriptural understanding of the role the Ruach in our lives. We will seek to hear the truth and be empowered by it. Once the Gathering starts, there will be no "break out sessions." Everyone will be in the same room (save for Dance Practice, and those who are having their DNA tested with Drs. Alex and Georgina Perdomo). Speaker after speaker will build on our theme: Maturing in Messiah. We will also have a Paneled Q&A session. To help us better prepare and set the tone of the Gathering, if you have an issue that you want to have addressed, we ask you to please submit your questions to us, ASAP, in an email to This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. .

Our hope is to have, on our final day (Sunday), a totally unique Bar Mitzvah, one that is a combined Betrothal Celebration. It will be a time for us to come under the Chuppah and make a commitment to seek to be Mature in Messiah - to be empowered by His Ruach, and to ever walk in His Torah-based, Spirit-led Way. If you hunger for the same things, if want to seek answers along with us, we hope you will Gather together with us.

By the way, people often take another name at a Bar/Bat Mitzvah, and we will be officially introducing a new name in our MIA family. That name is "ARI," which means "Lion" in Hebrew. We have hopes that ARI will be used to help us to continue to walk in the Torah-based, Spirit-led Way of the Lion of Judah that we hope to find in our Gathering.

David Yaniv, Lt Col IDF Ret

1936 -2012

Our brother and friend, Pastor David Yaniv, MIA Ambassador, after many years of serious health issues, has now passed from this life. He fought the good fight, he finished the race, he kept the faith. And now, the crown of righteousness, which YAH, the Righteous Judge, will award him on that day is in store for him. Yeshua receive David unto Himself on Friday, June 29, 2012 while in his sleep. Precious in the sight of YAH is the death of His saints.

David was born in Tel Aviv, Israel in 1936. He was married to his lovely bride Sheila for 52 years. A Memorial for David will be held next week in Lynnwood, Washington.

We were privileged to personally know and love David for almost 10 years. Many of you today have heard about David and Sheila from the number of appearances and interviews that have been produced on television, radio, and in magazines about his incredible testimony. Yeshua healed him after 7 years of distressing paralysis, allowing him to become a Believer as he cried out for healing while watching a Christian TV program.

The MIA was recently blessed when David agreed to give an interview that turned out to be his last on this earth. It will be uploaded on the MIA website in the near future. Col. David Yaniv bravely served in the IDF for many years before becoming a Believer, then he moved to the United States and devoted the rest of his life as an emissary for YAH.

One of David's sons is en-route from Israel to participate in the Memorial that will be held for David next week in Lynnwood, Washington. We will keep you posted as to the Memorial plans.

We ask you to keep his wife Sheila, and their family in your prayers at this time of grief and sorrow.

Blessings and Shalom,
Daniel and Sylvia Calderon, MIA Shepherds

State of the Reunion: Part II

by Hale Harris

Editor's Note: In the Article, "State of the Reunion: Part I," Hale asked us to consider the state of the reunion of Judah and Ephraim in the last days-to consider our frame of reference and to question whether or not we have a proper perspective in the matter. Hale showed us that our challenge is to have a frame of reference that is centered in Messiah Yeshua - because that is the only way that we will be able to move forward in our Reunion.

Part II:
Let us begin Part II with Galatians 2:19-20: "For through the Law I died to the Law, that I might live to God. I have been crucified with Christ; and it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me, and delivered Himself up for me."

These are ultimate frame of reference verses. This is foundational New Covenant understanding. This is why we are told to be baptized, or immersed in the mikveh, if you prefer. Baptism is a New Covenant ritual that speaks of our death, burial, and resurrection in Messiah. This concept is all-important as it regards living out our New Covenant life. By faith we are placed IN HIM. When it says you have been crucified with Messiah, this is not just figurative language. Somehow, someway, in a dimension that transcends time you were put on the cross with Yeshua and you died. The scriptures say our "old man" (anthropos), the old nature we inherited from Adam that was steeped in sin, was put on the cross with Messiah and crucified with Him. That's a done deal. Today's program is not about trying to reform and fix the old man; the old man has been put to death.

So you do not have two natures. You now have the nature of your Heavenly Father. You are a new creation-the Holy Spirit and your spirit have become one (1 Cor. 6:17). This is the heart of the good news.

Most of us know about Yeshua's death. But we often overlook the reality of our own death. I probably don't have to tell you that death is very final. You ever hear about people who stage their own death so the bad guys (or maybe even the good guys) will quit looking for them? Well, this was not a staged or fake death-this was the real thing. You were placed IN HIM and you died IN HIM. If you look up the scriptures concerning this, they are all in the past tense.  Yeshua kept the Law perfectly, something we can't do; He took the punishment for the sins of all the sons of Adam, and He died. We were immersed (baptidzo) into that death (Rom. 6:3).

Why wasn't Yeshua's death all that was needed? Why did we have to die also? The reason is twofold: According to the Law it's illegal for a husband who has divorced his wife to remarry her if she has gone and been with another man. The House of Israel went and committed spiritual adultery. In the book of Romans, Paul, writing from the wife's (our) perspective, explains that the law has jurisdiction over a person as long as that person lives. A married woman is bound by law to her husband while he is living, but if he dies, she is free from the law binding herself to her husband. But then Paul writes something startling: "Therefore, my brethren, you also were made to die to the Law through the body of Christ, so that you might be joined to another, to Him who was raised from the dead, in order that we might bear fruit for God" (Rom. 7:4).

The Truth About Two House Theology

As the Founder and President of the MIA, with a smile on my face, I want to heartily affirm the "Announcement" that is herewith being made by my wife, Batya.

               *******

Messiah Yeshua said, "What I tell you in the darkness, speak in the light; and what you hear whispered in your ear, proclaim upon the housetops" (Matthew 10:27).

With this verse in mind, please pardon me while I climb up on my rooftop and kevetchand complain a little bit.

With all of my heart, I believe that the Holy One of Israel, through Scripture, "whispered" the truth about "both the houses of Israel" and their full restoration in my ear (Isaiah 8:14Ezekiel 37:15-28). To me, the truth about Israel's redemption is a high and holy truth that should be treated with utmost respect. Therefore, I have something that I would like to shout and maybe even scream about. It is something that bugs me, because it is such a terrible misnomer.

It is said that a picture is worth a thousand words, so I tried to depict our "announcement/complaint" in the attached graphic, which Angus and I dubbed, "Two House - One House Theologies."

If you like it, we wish you would forward it and this article to every friend you have. Please, please, send it around the world!

I ask this because I never liked being called "Two House." I dislike the title because it was made popular by someone who copied our teachings and then added some terrible errors. I would love to be able to escape that negative association. Beyond that, I see an absolute irony in the way the title was picked up and is now often used by people who reject the truth about the restoration of Ephraim and Judah. Every time I hear us being labeled as "Two House," I feel like it is an incorrect, unsuitable name, one that does not describe us - or our ultimate goal - but it instead well describes those who oppose the truth of Scripture that we teach!

An irony is said to be an expression in which the intended meaning of the words is the opposite of their usual sense; an event or result that is the opposite of what is expected. To me, the "Two House" title is incredibly ironic because those who are against what they call the "Two House" teaching, are themselves "Two House" teachers! They are the ones who do not embrace the idea of the "One House" theology that we teach! They instead want to continue with a middle wall of partition that Messiah Yeshua tore down long ago. They do not accept the fact that, in Messiah, "former" non-Jewish Believers are "brought nigh" to His commonwealth of Israel, and "now share citizenship with the saints" (Ephesians 2:11-22). They do not embrace the truth that the Messiah of Israel said, "I have other sheep, which are not of this fold; I must bring them also, and they will hear My voice; and they will become one flock with one shepherd" (John 10:16). These "two house teachers" reject the fact that the God of Israel has sworn that He will make the two sticks of Ephraim and Judah - and their companions - one stick in His hand (Ezekiel 37:19).

In the Garden of Gethsemane our Messiah prayed that we might be "one," even as He and the Father are one. He prayed for His Disciples, and for those who would believe in Him through their Word (meaning, the New Covenant). He said, "I do not ask on behalf of these [Disciples] alone, but for those also who believe in Me through their word; that they may all be one; even as You, Father, are in Me and I in You, that they also may be in Us, so that the world may believe that You sent Me" (John 17:11, 20-21).

Messiah's last wish was that we might be one! He even declared that this is the very testimony that will convince the world that the Father has sent Him!
Friends, we need to stop opposing, stop focusing on, and stop even thinking of ourselves as being "Two House." We need to instead become "One House."
Yes, it is absolutely true that there were two houses, and to the extent that they have not entered into the New Covenant, those two houses continue to exist - even in our day. For this reason, our critique of the "Two House" title is done "tongue in cheek." We know there are two houses of Israel that have not yet been fully reunited, but "Two House" does not at all represent the stated goal of the New Covenant.

We see that goal when we read of the Father's New Covenant promise, which was given to both Ephraim/Israel and Judah - however - the New Covenant was made with an entrance caveat, a conditional clause, if you will.

In Jeremiah 33:14-15 we read, "'Behold, days are coming,' declares the LORD, 'when I will fulfill the good word which I have spoken concerning the house of Israel and the house of Judah. In those days and at that time I will cause a righteous Branch of David to spring forth; and He shall execute justice and righteousness on the earth." The Righteous Branch of David is Messiah Yeshua. He said of Himself, "I am the root and the offspring/branch of David" (Revelation 22:16). He came, lived, and died for us, that He might pay the price for our sins, and thus offer us, a "new and better covenant" (Hebrews 7:19; 9:10; 12:24).

Jeremiah foretold this coming New Covenant: "'Behold, days are coming," declares the LORD, 'when I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel and with the house of Judah, not like the covenant which I made with their fathers...which they broke, although I was a husband to them,' declares the LORD. 'But this is the covenant which I will make with the house of Israel after those days,' declares the LORD, 'I will put My law within them and on their heart I will write it; and I will be their God, and they shall be My people" (Jeremiah 31:31-33).

Notice that, while the New Covenant promise was given to both Judah and Israel, the Covenant was only made with the "house of Israel" (also see  2Corinthians 3:6Hebrews 8:8-13; 9:15; 12:24). The message we need to glean from this is that, while the promise was given to two divided houses, the conditional clause is, when we enter into the New Covenant, we are thereafter only to be known as the one, redeemed, reunited and restored, "House of Israel" (Ephesians 2:11-22).

When we founded the "Messianic Israel Alliance," we knew this to be the case. When the twelve tribes come together in Messiah, they do so under the all-encompassing title of "Israel." For, it is written that, Jacob had twelve sons, whom YHVH "named Israel" (2 Kings 17:34). For this reason, we chose our title. And today, we still prefer to be called "Messianic Israel," or "Redeemed Israel." To be called "Two House" goes against the goal of the New Covenant.

Friends, we believe that we need to have a paradigm shift. We desperately need to change our focus at this time. We need to concentrate on our Father's desire, which is to make us "One House," to make us one, united, New Covenant people. We need to realize that, those who fight the truth of the One House of Israel, are in essence fighting the declared New Covenant intent of the Almighty Himself.

     Long live the "One House!"

I'll get off my rooftop now.

     Batya (and Angus)
