by Peter Goldman And what G-d says about Israel is important, very important. After all, the Bible does not take place in New York or Los Angeles, or Paris or Montana, or Moscow or Illinois. It takes place in Israel, in the Holy Land. Our futures, our lives could depend on understanding what has happened in Israel and what is happening today. If we as a nation make the wrong decisions about Israel we could be destroyed by G-d. After all, G-d says, "It shall come to pass in that day that I will seek to destroy all the nations that come against Jerusalem." (Zechariah 12:9). We certainly don't want to be one of the nations destroyed by G-d, and yet because of our obeisance to Arab, oil money and intimidation, we could end up on the wrong side. FULFILLED PROPHECYThe Bible repeatedly states that the Land of Israel belongs to the people of Israel. G-d said to Jacob: "I will give this land to thy seed after thee for an everlasting possession." (Genesis 48:4) This statement is said by G-d not once, but many times, so there is no question as to whom the land belongs. G-d warned His people (Leviticus and Deuteronomy) that if they did not obey His commandments they would be driven from the land and suffer terrible tortures, pogroms and decimation. This, we know, came to pass But G-d says that when His people Jews are away from the land, the land will be desolate, fallow, "And I shall lay the land waste and I shall scatter you among the nationalism your land shall be a waste and your cities ruins" (Leviticus 26:32-33) This, too, came to pass. All visitors to the Holy Land in the 18th and 19th centuries, like Mark Twain, remarked that the land was empty, desolate, in ruins, waiting for its sons (the people of Israel) to return. G-d also said, concerning the House of Judah, that the once numerous Jewish people would become few in numbers: "And you shall be left few in number, whereas you were as the stars in heaven for multitude." (Deuteronomy 28:62). This too came to pass. Today there are only 13 million Jews in the world. But G-d said he would not forget the remnant of the Jewish people and he would bring them back to the land "And I will bring back the captivity of my people"and I will plant them upon their land (Amos 9:14) "The Lord will return and gather thee from all the nations amongst whom the Lord the G-d has scattered thee"and the Lord they G-d will bring thee into the land which thy fathers possessed" (Deuteronomy 30:3-5) This, too, came to pass. The miracle of a people returning to a land left empty after nearly 2000 years of exile has no equivalent in history. Today more than 5 million Jews live in Israel, a miracle foretold in the Bible along with hundreds of other accurate prophecies. ISRAEL IN DANGERBut tiny Israel, no larger than the state of New Jersey, is surrounded by enemies committed to the Jewish State's destruction. Inside Israel, Yasser Arafat and the Palestinian Authority are pledged to destroy Israel and replace it with another Arab-Moslem state. The PLO's charter calls for the destruction of Israel by armed violence. There is no "partner for peace." Every day Arab terrorists attack innocent Jews, blowing up school buses, shooting children in their parents' arms, smashing in the heads of teenage boys. The toll mounts. "Peace for us means the destruction of Israel," said Arafat's close aide Feisal el Husseini. Palestinian Authority television spews hatred against the Jews which equals the hatred of the nazis. Israel is embattled. The possibility of another holocaust looms. Forget what you read in the newspapers or see on network "news." The basis of the Arab-Israel conflict is simple: The Arab rejection of a Jewish state of any size and the attempt to destroy this state. As soon as Israel declared its independence in 1948, five Arab armies seeking to throw the Jews into the sea invaded the tiny state. The cause of the conflict remains the same today. Religion also plays a role. Radical Islam calls for a Jihad, a holy war against Israel. The killing of Jews is called a religious obligation by Moslem clerics on Palestinian Authority television. One example: "The resurrection of the dead will not arrive until you fight the Jews and kill them." (PATV, March 20, 2001.) RADICAL ISLAM THREATENS UNTIED STATES, CHRISTIANSBut it is not only Israel that is threatened .We, too are threatened. "First the Saturday people; then the Sunday people" is a cry of radical Islam. Islamist terrorist groups today have access to weapons of mass destruction. These groups are determined not only to destroy Israel but the United States as well. Only fast-acting customs officials in the State of Washington prevented the blowing up Los Angeles International Airport by Islamist terrorists. One of these terrorists, Ahmed Ressam said that he was inspired by religious edicts that said, "fight Americans and hit their interests everywhere." Middle East analyst, Emanuel Winston writes, "Regrettably, the Christian world has not yet come to grips with the fact that Israel is on the front lines against a rapidly expanding wave of Radical Islamic Fundamentalism, which, unfortunately, is likely to soon engulf the world." In countries where Islam has gained power, Christians are being brutally persecuted. An example is the Sudan where the Arab north is conducting a wart of genocide against the Black Christian south, bombing churches, raping women, forcing conversions and selling Christians into slavery. Why is our media not reporting this? MEDIA MISINFORMATIONUnfortunately, the media misinforms and ill-informs people. There is no moral equivalency between terrorists who smash in the heads of two teenage Jewish boys out for a stroll, and Arab children accidentally killed in the line of fire during an armed conflict, especially when Yassir Arafat and his thugs deliberately placed these children there. If all your information about the Middle East comes from the major media or your local newspaper, you have no idea of the reality of Israel, the Arab-Israel conflict or the Middle East. Intimated by Arab terrorist threats, Arab money and oil, added to politically correct anti-Israel biases the media misrepresents and distorts the news. Note: Peter Goldman, the author of this editorial, was a cofounder of the American Coalition for Israel, which unfortunately is not active at this time.
